What is a Roadworthy Certificate?
A roadworthy certificate/safety certificate is required in Queensland if you are selling your vehicle, transferring ownership, re-registering a vehicle or transferring your registration to another state.
Roadworthy certificates certify that your motor vehicle is safe for use on the road and complies with the Queensland Safety Standards.
How long is a Roadworthy Certificate valid for?
If you’re a private seller, your certificate is valid for 2 months or 2,000kms (whichever comes first). If you are a licensed dealer, your certificate is valid for 3 months or 1,000kms (whichever comes first).
What happens if it doesn’t pass on the first inspection?
Queensland Transport allows you 14 days from the first inspection date to have the defects repaired. Once the repairs are completed, we can issue the roadworthy certificate. If you fail to complete the repairs within the 14 days you will need to pay for a new inspection.
How long does it take?
A safety inspection generally takes between 35 and 45 minutes.
